ACTIVIVITIES IN 2023

ACTIVITIES IN YEAR 2023:

1) Facilitator of Training at Bantul District Social Affairs Office. Training on capacity development skills on how to handle and give basic services to people with mental disorders, people with disability, and homeless children. The training was organized by Bantul District Social Affair Office, Yogyakarta Proince, 9 and 11 March 2023, participated by 30 participants from the village cadre and services unit of the District Social Affairs Office.

2) Team Writer of Mata Hati Book. The staff of Nawakamal Mitra Semesta was invited by the Sleman District Health Office to be a team of book writer, together with team from Yakkum and the District Health Office. The book's content is about awareness, stories, and good practices including steps on how to develop community based mental health programs by the local community in the village. This book is like a guidebook to implement those programs, and would be distributed to stakeholders in all villages in the District of Sleman, Yogyakarta Province. The project duration is February to April 2023.

3) Study visit from the director of Terang Kasih Anugerah Foundation, based in West Sumba-East Nusa Tenggara (Indonesia) in March 2023. This foundation would like to learn about how to develop services and empower people with mental illness in the community because there are many cases of people with mental illness in its foundation project areas.


4) Evaluation Workshop of TPKJM of Yogyakarta Province. TKPJM is an ad hoc team formed formally by the provincial government of Yogyakarta. The roles of the team are to promote and implement programs for mental health issues and services for people with mental Illness. Yayasan Nawakamal has long experience and networking with this team, and on 10 April 2023 invited by the provincial government of Yogyakarta to be involved in the evaluation workshop.

5) Main Keynote Speaker on Series Roadshow by Yogyakarta Province House of Representatives. In 2022 then continued in 2023, Yayasan Nawakamal was chosen by the Yogyakarta Province House of Representatives to be the keynote speaker of those activities. There would be 15 series roadshows in 15 districts starting in May and finishing in late November 2023. Approximately it was 750 participants such as caregivers of people with mental disorders, village cadres, village government staff, community leaders, and related stakeholders at the sub-district level, etc.

6) Training at Terang Kasih Anugerah Foundation about capacity building on basic knowledge on who people with mental illness and skills on how to serve them. Training done in Terang Kasih Anugerah Foundation office in West Sumba, East Nusatenggara  May 2023. Yayasan Nawakaml staff was invited to be the main trainer of the activities for 1 week. It is based on the foundation planning that would like to implement empowerment programs for people with mental disorders and their families in their areas.

7)  One Day Workshop on Community Based Rehabilitation Program for people with mental illness in the community at Nursing Academy. The workshop was held in the Nursing Academy of  South West Sumba District  in May 2023. This workshop would be so strategic as it is so rare medical human resource working for mental illness. Nawakamal to be the main keynote speaker in the workshop. About 150 nursing students attended the workshop. After graduation, they may work in all health instituion in Sumba Island or other part of the East Nusa Tenggara Province.


8)  One Day Workshop on Community Based Rehabilitation Program for people with mental illness in the community at Hauileo University. The workshop was held in the Faculty of Psychology at the Hauileo University in Kendari Suouth-West Sulawesi in May 2023. This workshop would be so strategic as it is so rare medical human resource working for mental illness. An interesting point is that this university is  one big university located in the Eastern part of Indonesia. Nawakamal to be the main keynote speaker in the workshop.

9) Series Discussion on Preparing School Based Mental Health Programs for the Youth. From July to August 2023 Yayasan Nawakamal has been invited regularly by the Yogyakarta City Health Office and Yogyakarta City Education Office to discuss developing a pilot program for "School Based Mental Health Programs" to develop a school responsive to mental health problems among the student. It is because of the increasing condition of bullying, harassment, sexual abuse, etc among student schools in Yogyakarta city.

10) Field Visite from Terang Kasih Anugerah Foundation staff in learning about Community Based Rehabilitation for people with mental illness. After the director of Terang Kasih Anugerah Foundation visited Nawakamal in March 2023, in the middle of August 2023 the staff of the foundation did a field learning visit to Nawakamal activities areas. Nawakamal prepares any kinds of field learning such as home visits to people with mental illness, learning village cadres activities, discussion with village government, how to do referral system, workshops in related government institution offices, visit provincial mental rehabilitation hospital, etc.

with mental disorders.

Yuni was also involved in training for caregivers of people with mental
illness that was held by Yogyakarta Provincial Rehabilitation Hospital for
for Mental Illness. Any other activities prepared for Yuni.

11) Training Implementation of School Based Mental Health Program. After a series of discussions in preparing the program from July to the end of August 2023, so in 4 to 7 September 2023, Yogyakarta City Health Office collaborated with Yogyakarta City Education Office to hold the training for pilot program implementation. The workshop invited 4 high schools to involve their students and teachers, and other related institutions to the training. Yayasan Nawakamal to be the main trainer.

12) Talk-Show on Good Mental Health for Youth in Yunior High School. After the implementation of  School Based Mental Health Program started on 27 September 2023, one of  Yunior High Schools in Yogyakarta city which is SMPN 7, has invited Yayasan Nawakamal to be the keynote speaker in this talk-show. About 170 students attend the talkshow. This school is also the target of the School Based Mental Health Program.

13) Socialization of  School Based Mental Health Program in Kulon Progo District. After Yogyakarta City launched the School Based Mental Health Program on 25 September 2023, the District of Kulon Progo Yogyakarta Province, followed the early step in starting the same program with socialization activities for some Yunior High Schools in that district. The activity involved 5 schools with representatives of students, teachers, school committee, staff of the District Health Office and District Office of Education, held on 25 September 2023.


14) Webinar to commemorate World Mental Health Day. Nawakamal Foundation commemorates World Mental Health Day by launching a webinar on 10 October 2023. The webinar took the topic of "human rights of people with mental illness in access to services and empowerment". The speakers such as Bagus Utomo (Director of Forum of Schizophrenia Indonesia), Emmanuel E. Tantra Putra (Director of Terang Kasih Anugerah Foundation - South West Sumba), Nitakrit Rumantiningsih (Head of Social Rehabilitation Unit of Bantul District Social Affair), and Sunarman Sukamto (Team of Expert Staff of Presidential Office of Indonesia). The 125 participants in the webinar come from any level, any organizations/institutions (Primary Health Center, government, NGO, university), village cadres, and others. The participants come from most parts of Indonesia such as Yogyakarta, Central Java, Jakarta, Lampung, North Sumatera, South East Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara).


15) Monitoring of Yogyakarta City School Base Mental Health Program. After the program launched at early September 2023, then at the midle of October 2023 the program has been monitored. There are 2 days monitoring. In first day the team (staff of Yogyakarta Health office and Nawakamal Foundation) visite the 4 schools as pilot project. Then in the second day, launched the monitoring workshop involving related stakeholders such as teacher, students, school committe, staff of Primary Health Care (mainly the psychologist), Yogyakarta Health Office, and Yogyakarta Education Office).

16) One day workshop on the elderly for Christian women. The staff of Nawakamal Foundation has been invited to be the main speaker/facilitator at the workshop on the elderly with the theme "To be Old with Healthy and Happy", organized by the Christian Women Association of Maguwoharjo Christian Church. The workshop was held on 26 Oktober 2025 participated by 55 women.


Of course, the process of dialog was in a happy atmosphere. Nawakamal

17) Routine Field Visits to people with mental illness and their families. As a process of encouraging, empowering, and developing trust amongst our program participants or stakeholders, Nawakamal Foundation doing regularly field visits in this 2023.

rampages  in the last few weeks.

18) School Base Mental Health Program (extension):  After 25 September 2023 the Kulonprogo District Health Office carried out the  School Base Mental Health outreach, now on 27 November 2023, the Education Department, the Health Service, the UGM Psychological Research Unit "Bangkit Jiwa", and the Nawakamal Foundation, are developing the outreach for 8 other junior high schools (about 48 participants such Head of School, Psychologist of Puskesmas, Teachers, representative of the student's parents, etc)  in Kulonprogo District. It is hoped that in 2024 this program will be implemented, starting with training on the School Base Mental Health Program.

19) One day workshop on wellness parenting for youth. The staff of Nawakamal Foundation has been invited to be the main speaker/facilitator at the workshop on wellness parenting for the youth, organized by the Christian Church Committee of the Temon Christian Church, District of Kulon Progo. The workshop was held on 27 November 2025 participated by 50 participants.

20) Series Roadshow on Community Mental Health Issues by Yogyakarta Province House of Representatives. (Seri of 15 - Final Series): The roadshow was started in May 2023 and Yayasan Nawakamal was appointed as the keynote speaker. In 28 November 2023 the Final Series of Roadshow was conducted in Kokap Sub-district, Kulonprogo District. There are a total of 15 activity points/locations, carried out at the sub-districts level in most regions of Yogyakarta Province in 4 districts and Yogyakarta city. Several important findings: (1) Stigma is still strong in society, (2) Mental Health Cadre Capacity needs to be improved, (3) The TPKJM (Implementation Team of Mental Health Program) team is not running well, (4) Community Health Centers have implemented mental health programs quite well, (5) Collaboration of related sectors not yet going well; and (6) Funds The government's focus on mental health issues and empowerment of ODGJ is still very small.

any related bodies at the villages , subdistrict district, also head of
junior and high schools as at now Kulonprogo district starting
to running the School Base Mental Health Program.
